Songbooks at the time showed the popularity of this song and it is still well-known today partly due to Johann Sebastian Bach’s use of the melody for one of his own chorals.

Het werk heeft één centraal thema dat door de hele compositie wordt uitgewerkt, zowel in langzame als in snelle beweging. Zo wordt het thema van allerlei kanten belicht met een vleugje virtuositeit en flinke dosis romantiek. Vandaar de titel ‘Kaleidoskoop’, geschreven met 2 k’s, vanwege de herkomst van dit woord uit het oude Grieks, waar geen c’s en wel k’s voorkwamen in het alfabet. -
Intermezzo Sinfonico€ 79,00Met de opera Cavalleria Rusticana won Pietro Mascagni de jonge componisten prijs voor een Opera Contest in 1890. En met dit meesterwerk had Mascagni direct zijn naam als componist gemaakt. De instrumentale interlude Intermezzo Sinfonico komen we ook in de TV- en filmwereld meerdere malen tegen. Waaronder Raging Bull, The Godfather III en de HBO-serie The Sopranos.
