Rhapsody in Black€ 101,23De inspiratie voor dit werk komt uit de eerste ontmoeting van het componist met het genre van Symphonic Metal – de openingstrack van het 2004 Nightwish album 'Once', getiteld Dark chest of Wonders. De combinatie van groot symfonisch orkest, vrouwelijke zang met opera invloeden en de ruwe kracht van een Scandinavische metal band was een krachtige mix die me onmiddellijk aantrok.

De Pastorale bestaat uit vier delen en wordt verondersteld te zijn geschreven voor uitvoering tijdens de kerstdiensten in de belangrijkste kerken in Leipzig, waaraan Bach destijds nauw verbonden was. Het werk is daarom vermoedelijk rond 1720 geschreven.
