Het is een interessante compositie waarin de voorgeschiedenis van deze Belgische gemeente tot klinken wordt gebracht. Het openingsdeel doet denken aan de opmars van een Romeins leger, terwijl het dynamische vervolg bol staat van de vitaliteit.

Commissioned by the Japan Band Clinic Committee of Yamaha for the Nemu Band Directors Clinic in Nemu no Sato, May 18-20, 1997.The surprising title of this work is an indication of its content. By combining the somewhat similar names ‘Nemu no Sato’ and ‘Susato’ into a new word, Jan Van der Roost has produced a significant and interesting subject.

The composer used an harmonic language respecting the popular characteristics, but on the other hand also contains some "spicy" notes (... just like the wellknown "Provençal sauce"! ...).

Prima Luce (First Light) was commisioned by the Holy Angels Elementary School located in Aurora (USA). The name of the town (which means dawn), the town’s great religious history and the fact that this town was one of the first in the USA to have streetlights were the inspiration for this Gregorian influenced atmospheric composition.

As the title suggests, this is a fiery and energetic, dynamic overture. Jan Van der Roost was commissioned to write the piece by the Japanese ‘Band of the NEC-Tamagawa Plant’ on the occasion of its 40th anniversary. From the first measure, the brass section sets the scene with rhythmical motives.
