It captures a feeling of freedom: a feeling of flying in total harmony with your surroundings. To soar literally means flying without propulsion, furthermore it means to ascend to an unknown height.

The Final Frontier€ 130,00In The Final Frontier, the composer explores different associations with the universe. Inspired by Stephen Hawking’s (1942-2018) book Brief Answers to the Big Questions, the piece describes the wonders and dangers of the universe, the big questions about the smallest elements, and the possibility of space travel.

Napoleon on the Alps€ 92,10This dramatic piece is based on the famous oil painting by Jacques-Louis David, ‘Napoleon Crossing the Alps’. There are three parts: Approaching the Great Saint-Bernard Pass depicting snowy mountains and the determined march of the NapoleonicArmy: The Emperor Napoleon a noble and heroic theme, accompanied by stately fanfares with an exotic flavour: and Onwards, to the Empire! describing Napoleon’s relentless drive to expand the French empire across the globe at. This piecewas first performed directly in front of the Napoleon Museum in Arenenberg, Switzerland in Summer 2016.

The Spider's Web€ 84,99The Spider's Web (het spinnenweb) is een metafoor voor gevaar, onzekerheid en risico. Door het hele werk heen contrasteren momenten van dreiging met momenten van rust op bepaalde punten komen deze twee ideeën samen en op andere plekken gaan ze de strijd met elkaar aan. In dit werk, dat veel technische vaardigheid van de spelers vraagt, gaan momenten van vredige kalmte onverwacht over in situaties van dreiging en gevaar. Een indrukwekkend, veelzijdig en spectaculair werk!

St James’s – A New Beginning herdenkt de dood van de Engelse architect Sir Christopher Wren 300 jaar geleden. Londen werd na de Grote Brand van 1666 weer opgebouwd naar zijn ontwerpen. Het stuk is gekozen als verplicht werk voor het nationale brassbandkampioenschap van Groot-Brittannië (“1st Section”) van 2023.

Afterlife€ 160,60In 'Afterlife', the composer describes his impressions at death and the afterlife.
The work is based on the Dies Irae motif, which has often been used throughout music history to represent death. Different emotions associated with death are expressed in various forms and inversions of the theme.

Hervatten wat we ooit zijn moeten stoppen. Dit positief en energiek werk symboliseert de wederopstanding van onze cultuursector.

Ivich Rjochter, Jo...€ 61,00Bij zijn afscheid als dirigent van de brassband Halleluja Menaam kreeg Ido Gerard Kempenaar van de vereniging een korte koraalcompositie cadeau.
Het werk gaat over de liedboek-melodie ‘Rechter in het licht verheven’, in het Fries 'Ivich Rjochter, Jo dy’t binne’. Het is een korte koraalfantasie gebaseerd op de muzikale motieven uit het lied. Deze motieven zijn zodanig getransformeerd dat daarmee de karaktertrekken van deze unieke dirigent heel beeldend worden weergegeven. De luisteraar hoort zijn gedrevenheid, zijn zeer persoonlijke kijk op partituren en zijn muzikale en hartstochtelijke benadering ervan. In combinatie met de prachtige, sobere liedmelodie wordt hem een veelzijdige muzikale ode bereid.

The New Jerusalem€ 115,95Commissioned by the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and first performed in 1990, a revised contest version was subsequently used as the set-work for the 1992 National Championships of Great Britain. It has since become one of Philip Wilby's most revered compositions and has been performed throughout the contesting world. Although initially inspired by a quotation from the Revelation of St John — "And I saw a New Heaven and a New Earth; for the first Heaven and the first Earth were passed away….", in the composer's mind it subsequently took on an almost allegorical dimension — much like Eric Ball's 'Journey into Freedom'. Revised against a backdrop of huge political change following the demise of the Soviet Union and the domino effect of collapse that occurred throughout former Eastern Block communist countries, for Wilby it came to represent "the triumph of the human spirit over oppression". As he himself wrote: "For a moment, the prophecy of St John's Revelation was suddenly highlighted in a new and quite unexpected way. The off-stage fanfares*, the turbulent nature of a large proportion of the band music and above all, the piece's life affirming end may all be seen as an optimistic vision of that social and religious rebirth".
