Partita dates from 1971, when it was commissioned by the Redbridge Youth Band. The musical thread that runs through the work is the 13th century plainsong Dies Irae from the Requiem Mass. This gives the work a rather sombre tone which is audible right from the start of its first movement Intrada. The initial hammer-like chords of the opening and conclusion are only interrupted momentarily by a more lyrical modal tune. Even here, on its repetition, it is surrounded by more insistent textural patterns.
The second movement, Chorale and Variations, uses the Dies Irae as the basis for an extended melody in the manner of a baroque sarabande. The five variations that follow are varied in texture, tempi, and dynamics. The final March is more optimistic in mood and presents as its main idea a rather jaunty theme which gets developed throughout the movement. However, the ominous presence of the Dies Irae has the last say with a final statement to round off the work.

Contrasten€ 149,99De inspiratiebron voor dit werk vormde de kernramp in het Russische Tsjernobyl die plaatsvond op 26 april 1986. In het eerste deel, Ostinato, worden wanhoop, machteloosheid, angst en woede uitgedrukt. Deze thematiek wordt in het snelle tweede deel, Fantasia, verder doorontwikkeld.

Musica Helvetica€ 189,99In het Zwitserse Wallberg wordt ieder jaar een concours voor harmonieorkesten en brassbands georganiseerd. Naast een hymne en een solowerk dienen alle orkesten een verplicht werk uit te voeren. Voor het concours van 2012 werd eenopdracht verstrekt aan Jan de Haan. De compositie kreeg Musica Helvetica als titel mee. Het gaat om een driedelig concertwerk waarvan de laatste twee delen onafgebroken in elkaar overgaan. Het eerste deel, Musica Prima,is een virtuoze en flitsende opening met hier en daar jazzy invloeden. In contrast daarmee staat het expressieve volgende deel, Musica Sacra, waarin het gedragen hoofdthema prachtig wordt uitgewerkt - de instrumentatieis hier buitengewoon kleurrijk. Het afsluitende deel, Musica Alpina, is ge nspireerd op het afwisselende landschap van Zwitserland. Het is grillig van structuur en vormt een waardige afsluiting van dit fraaie drieluik.
