On the 13 th May 2000, the Netherlands was shocked by an explosion in Roombeek – a district of Enschede, near the German border – after a fire broke out at a local fireworks depot. 23 people lost their lives in the tragic events. This piece pays tribute to their memory.

‘232.778ºC’ was written during October 2016 and is a musical homage and reaction to Ray Bradbury’s ‘Farenheit 451’ and the illustrations of the novel by Ralph Steadman. It received its premiere on Sunday 20th November at the 40th Brass in Concert Championships at the Sage, Gateshead.

He is Starlight was commissioned by Margaret Austin with financial support from UNESCO, for performance by The Woolston Band at the 2015 Festival of Star Light in Twizel, New Zealand. The piece is a commemoration for composer John Ritchie (J.A.R.)

Lake of Tenderness was commissioned by Dr. Robert Childs and the Grimethorpe Colliery Band as part of their 2015 Brass in Concert programme, in which a selection of new pieces were commissioned based on the various basaltic plains of the earth’s moon, thought by early astronomers to be lakes.
