Hermitage€ 117,99Jan de Haan inspireerde dit werk op vijf schilderijen uit de Hermitage in Sint-Petersburg, een van de grootste en meest veelzijdige musea ter wereld. Daarbij gebruikte hij het melodieuze Andante cantabile uit het strijkkwartet opus 11 van de Russische componist Pjotr Iljitsj Tsjaikovski als uitgangspunt. Zo creëerde hij een eigen muzikale schildering die net zo gevarieerd is als de doeken die eraan ten grondslag liggen – van Vrolijk gezelschap in een herberg van Dirck Hals tot De dans II van Henri Matisse. Een waar kunststuk!

Free Mind€ 64,99Voor Free Mind, een luchtig en dynamisch werk, putte Marc Jeanbourquin inspiratie uit een gospelsong, ‘Oh, Freedom’, een Afro-Amerikaans vrijheidslied dat na de Amerikaanse Burgeroorlog is ontstaan. In de huidige tijden van crisis wilde de componist een positieve en energieke sfeer creëren om de hoop op betere dagen te symboliseren. De vier noten van het thema ‘Oh, Freedom’ komen telkens terug en krijgen extra glans door de inzet van levendig slagwerk, waarmee Free Mind een sprankelend stuk is geworden om uw volgende concert vol enthousiasme mee te openen.

The Spider's Web€ 84,99The Spider's Web (het spinnenweb) is een metafoor voor gevaar, onzekerheid en risico. Door het hele werk heen contrasteren momenten van dreiging met momenten van rust op bepaalde punten komen deze twee ideeën samen en op andere plekken gaan ze de strijd met elkaar aan. In dit werk, dat veel technische vaardigheid van de spelers vraagt, gaan momenten van vredige kalmte onverwacht over in situaties van dreiging en gevaar. Fanfare for an Occasion€ 83,77Fanfare for an Occasion werd gecomponeerd als inzending voor de 'International Brass Band Composer Competition 2020' georganiseerd door Andrew Wainwright. De juryleden waren James Curnow, Dr. Liz Lane en Paul Hindmarsh. Er waren ongeveer 92 inzendingen en 'Fanfare for an Occasion' werd bekroond met de 2e plaats. Het is sindsdien gereviseerd en georchestreerd voor harmonieorkest en fanfareorkest.

St James’s – A New Beginning herdenkt de dood van de Engelse architect Sir Christopher Wren 300 jaar geleden. Londen werd na de Grote Brand van 1666 weer opgebouwd naar zijn ontwerpen. Het stuk is gekozen als verplicht werk voor het nationale brassbandkampioenschap van Groot-Brittannië (“1st Section”) van 2023.

The Saga of Haakon the...€ 229,99The Saga of Haakon the Good werd geschreven in opdracht van Frei Hornmusikk uit Noorwegen, ter gelegenheid van het samengaan van de twee Kommuner (gemeenten) Frei en Kristiansund op 1 januari 2008. Deze brassband gebruikte het werk bij het Noorse Nationale Brassbandkampioenschap in februari. De compositie is gebaseerd op belangrijke gebeurtenissen in het leven van Haakon de Goede (ca. 920-961), die koning Haakon 1 van Noorwegen werd - THE FUTURE KING.

The New Jerusalem€ 115,95Commissioned by the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and first performed in 1990, a revised contest version was subsequently used as the set-work for the 1992 National Championships of Great Britain. It has since become one of Philip Wilby's most revered compositions and has been performed throughout the contesting world. Although initially inspired by a quotation from the Revelation of St John — "And I saw a New Heaven and a New Earth; for the first Heaven and the first Earth were passed away….", in the composer's mind it subsequently took on an almost allegorical dimension — much like Eric Ball's 'Journey into Freedom'. Revised against a backdrop of huge political change following the demise of the Soviet Union and the domino effect of collapse that occurred throughout former Eastern Block communist countries, for Wilby it came to represent "the triumph of the human spirit over oppression". As he himself wrote: "For a moment, the prophecy of St John's Revelation was suddenly highlighted in a new and quite unexpected way. The off-stage fanfares*, the turbulent nature of a large proportion of the band music and above all, the piece's life affirming end may all be seen as an optimistic vision of that social and religious rebirth".
