The Great Train Robbery is based on an actual train robbery which took place in 1855. The film boasted a rip-roaring score by Jerry Goldsmith. Composers have long been interested in depicting train movement through music and Goldsmith is no exception – this dashing scherzo music bristles with excitement and energy and is intended to open the evening with a bang!
