Kaval Sviri€62.50The composition Kaval Sviri by Jord Spruyt is an energetic and colorful arrangement of a traditional Bulgarian melody that is known worldwide for its hypnotic rhythms and raw, oriental sound world. Spruyt grabs hold of that folk musical core and transforms it into a virtuoso work for brass band, in which pulsating ostinati, sharp articulations and broad lyrical lines constantly alternate.
The kaval, a shepherd's flute that plays an iconic role in the Balkans, is the source of inspiration for the thematic material. In Spruyt's arrangement, the echo of this instrument resounds in both the solo passages and the powerful tutti moments. The music exudes tension, movement and an almost ritual intensity, while the composer simultaneously leaves room for transparency and refinement.
Kaval Sviri is therefore a work that takes both players and audience on a compelling musical journey: from mystical simplicity to explosive energy.
