SHARDS! was commissioned by Brass Band Pro Rege Heerenveen as their opening work at the WMC World Brass Band Championships 2017.
A shard of glass has a hard surface that reflects light. It also refracts light, giving a kaleidoscopic effect, although its edge can also be sharp as a razor. The musical language in this work represents the hard, sharp and kaleidoscopic features of shards of glass. -

Soaring the Sky is a short piece in a typical brass band style with influences from popular music. It captures a feeling of freedom: a feeling of flying in total harmony with your surroundings. To soar literally means flying without propulsion, furthermore it means to ascend to an unknown height.

In The Final Frontier, the composer explores different associations with the universe. Inspired by Stephen Hawking’s (1942-2018) book Brief Answers to the Big Questions, the piece describes the wonders and dangers of the universe, the big questions about the smallest elements, and the possibility of space travel.

Melita Variations€97.90
This piece is a set of variations based on the hymn tune «Melita» (John Bacchus Dykes), this hymn is also widely known as «Eternal Father! Strong to Save». The hymn is built on a structure of six, two bar phrases. The melody and rhythm are simple in nature allowing for a great deal of exploration in variations.
