In the most literal sense: a piece for an occasion. The actual occasion was Jan de Haan’s twentieth anniversary as a conductor of the top Dutch brass band, “Soli Deo Gloria” (Leeuwarden). To mark the occasion, the band commissioned the Belgian comopser Jan Van der Roost to create a surprise piece: without knowledge of the person being celebrated, a suitable source of inspiration was sought for.

Hymnus Antverpiae€ 81,00
This hymn was commissioned by “Antwerpen 93”. And this city, on the banks of the river Schelde has been nominated “Cultural Capital of Europe” for 1993. The work-group “animatie” took the initiative and commissioned a hymn, which -as the finale to a grand open-air event on 27th March- was premièred by hundreds of musicians from all over Europe.

Opzet: Een kathedraal spreekt tot de verbeelding: honderden jaren lang werd er met man en macht gewerkt om het bouwwerk klaar te krijgen, niet voor niets zijn het tot op vandaag imposante schouwspelen van bouwkunst en geschiedenis. De kathedraal was dan ook een dankbare inspiratiebron om een werk te componeren vol akoestische echo-effecten, gregoriaanse melodieën en orgelachtige koraalthema's.

Last Call was commissioned by and written for Brass Band Oberösterreich (Austria) as a special concert finale. Austrian composer Otto M. Evening Rise Spirit Come is de Engelse versie van een Indiaans nummer, waarschijnlijk een Hopi-nummer. Het is een van de bekendste sjamanistische liedjes. Ondertussen wordt het ook gezongen in tal van christelijke kerken. In tegenstelling tot andere Indiase sjamanistische liederen is het meer een rustig, aanhoudend, meditatief lied.

“Abel, een verhaal over dromen en ontdekken” Dé mini-musical voor Harmonie, Fanfare en Brassband in samenwerking met de plaatselijke basisschool. Gebaseerd op de ontdekkingsreizen van Abel Tasman (1603-1659), geboren te Lutjegast (provincie Groningen). Schrijfster Clara Rullmann heeft het verhaal en de liedjes geschreven vanuit de belevingswereld van het kind.
